Albert Akowuah is a partner at KAN Chartered Accountants and leads strategy. He is a seasoned oil and gas executive with more than 23 years of experience across finance, accounting, commerce, petroleum economics, corporate strategy, and contract negotiations. A Chartered Accountant and strategist, he has played a pivotal role in shaping Ghana’s petroleum sector through leadership at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
Albert currently serves as Director of Finance at GNPC, overseeing corporate and project finance, accounting, reporting, risk, and insurance. He previously led the Commerce Division, managing crude oil marketing, gas business strategy, and corporate investments. He earlier spearheaded GNPC’s Corporate Strategy Department, directing the formulation and monitoring of the corporation’s 2021–2030 Corporate Plan.
His contributions extend beyond GNPC: Albert has served on national committees, including the Government Negotiation Team for petroleum agreements, the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Local Content, and the drafting committees for Ghana’s Oil & Gas Local Content Policy, the SIGA Bill, and the Energy Policy. He was instrumental in drafting the first Crude Oil Lifting Agreement for the Jubilee Field and recently chaired GNPC’s ESG Committee to align with global sustainability standards.
Albert has pursued extensive professional development, with advanced training in Financial Reporting under IFRS (London, 2026), Strategic Management & Leadership (UK, 2019), Petroleum Contracts Management (Malaysia, 2009), and Oil & Gas Financial Management (University of Texas, USA, 2008). He has also attended international conferences, including the World Congress of Accountants (India, 2022), the World Energy Congress (UAE, 2019), and the Asia Pacific Petroleum Conference (Singapore, 2024), demonstrating his commitment to continuous learning and international best practices.
Albert holds a master’s degree in Oil & Gas Management (Finance & Investments, Distinction) from Coventry University in the UK and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Cape Coast. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana.
