Abdul Shakur Adam is partner at KAN Chartered Accountants in charge of Internal Audit and Enterprise Risk Management. He has about 10 years post qualification experience and his professional journey is a story of dedication, precision, and impact in the fields of accounting, auditing, and enterprise risk management. From his early days as an Accounts Officer at Servair Ghana Ltd, where he quickly rose to Acting Finance and Administrative Manager, to his current role as Senior Risk Manager at the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Shakur has consistently demonstrated a rare blend of technical expertise and leadership.
At GCAA, he leads the establishment of a comprehensive Enterprise Risk Management framework, shaping policies and building a culture of risk awareness across the institution. His work ensures that the organization is resilient, prepared, and strategically positioned to respond to regulatory reforms and operational challenges. Before this, he was a driving force at the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), where he coordinated the development and review of the company’s risk management framework and policies. His leadership contributed to GACL being recognized as the Best ERM Compliant Institution in the State-Owned Enterprises Category in 2023.
Shakur’s career is marked by significant achievements: uncovering fraud exceeding 10 million Ghana Cedis, designing innovative audit tools replicated across institutions, and leveraging analytics software to streamline payroll and detect inefficiencies. His professional endeavours at KAN Chartered Accountants and as well his internal audit assignments with organizations such as the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa, LBG (FARA) further underscores his influence beyond aviation, extending into continental initiatives under the African Union Commission.
Academically, Shakur is deeply grounded, holding a Bachelor of Commerce and MBA (Finance) from the University of Cape Coast, an MSc in Business Consulting and Enterprise Risk Management from KNUST, and a Post-Chartered Diploma in Treasury and Financial Risk Management from ICAG. He is also a Certified Quantitative Risk Manager (CQRM), a credential that complements his chartered accountancy and positions him as a thought leader in financial and risk management.
His professional affiliations with the Institute of Chartered Accountants (Ghana), the Institute of Internal Auditors (Global and Ghana), and the Association of Airport Internal Auditors (USA) reflect his commitment to global best practices. Colleagues and institutions value him for his intellectual curiosity, reliability, and ability to deliver under pressure.
Passionate about enterprise risk management and audit, Abdul Shakur Adam continues to shape systems that protect institutions, enhance accountability, and drive value.
